Welcome everyone, to Bishop Reding's Student Success endeavor: Project REV!
Project REV is 2023-2024's cross-curricular project that combines several areas of school instruction under the STEM learning model.
This year's big goal will be for students to design and construct a near replica of Henry Ford's Quadricycle.
The famous American industrialist's 1896 design was a humble prototype of a wheeled cart. It moved under it's own power by means of a small internal combustion engine. The tiny carriage had an overall length of under eight feet, and was constructed of mostly simple components like bicycle wheels, stick lever steering, and a carbide lantern for a headlight.
As a tribute to Mr. Ford's creation, our students will recreate most of the quadricycle and preserve its historical look. After the chassis, seating and steering systems are built, the REV team will endow the vehicle with new technologies.
The REV team, comprised of several teachers and students from different subject areas, have begun the design work and construction of this exciting machine, along with the co-operation of a few community partners in the Halton area. These partnerships will also work together with HCDSB's Specialist High Skills Major program to give member students exposure to several sector based career opportunities after high school.
Check out post number 2, where we lay out our team groups, subject areas, and workflow strategies!
